Did you know that in the last half century we have given people 20 more years of life, which directly provide more family time?

Nowadays, a person who was born in 1950 can go from living 65 years to 85. In fact, according to the latest forecasts of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), by 2033, 25.2% of the Spanish population will be over 65, which is more than 49 million inhabitants. This reality reverts to an increase in the incidence and prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases.

The forecasts and the data speak for themselves. In a few years’ time one in five families in Spain will have a neurological problem. It is therefore essential to invest in neurological diseases to improve the quality of life of people. Without a doubt, neurology is and always will be key in our lives. Why? Think about this statement by cardiologist Valentín Fuster: The heart gives you the quantity of life and the brain gives you the quality of life.

At Novartis we have been committed to neurology research for more than 70 years. We are constantly working on new models of approach that take into account the opinion of patients and their impact on their quality of life. “In the future, taking care of our brain will help us to live for longer while maintaining quality of life,” explains Orlando Vergara, Novartis' neuroscience director.

To do this, we have launched Reimagine Neuroscience, an innovative and disruptive project that aims to reimagine the medicine of the present and the future. With Reimagine Neuroscience we intend to transform the current relationship model among the actors of the health ecosystem into a new model that helps to improve people’s quality of life even more. We need the collaboration and involvement of all the health agents involved in the healthcare sector to be able to implement this new health model that responds to the current demands and needs of the system.

And you, will you accompany us to reimagine the medicine of the future?
