How we created NeuroHouse, the first interaction space for neuroscientists in Spain

The technological revolution is creating unprecedented opportunities and challenges in all areas of industry. And medicine has not been sidelined. It’s now possible to detect early signs of Alzheimer's, or to determine your heart rate or the kilometres you’ve walked just by consulting a mobile app or a smartwatch.

With the digitalisation of health at its peak, one of our main challenges is to re-imagine medicine and spearhead digital innovation for the benefit of patients. And from now on, working to achieve this will be easier thanks to NeuroHouse. And the purpose of this space? To connect with local and international talent, to establish a physical venue to drive the creation and development of innovative solutions in the neuroscience ecosystem. The NeuroHouse space, located in the new Pier 03 building in Barcelona Tech City(1), is part of our Re-imagine Neurosciences project, an innovative and groundbreaking initiative that aims to re-imagine the medicine of the present and the future.

This place will be the first physical meeting and interaction point(2) in Spain that will advance and improve how we approach and care for people with neurological diseases in a multidisciplinary manner. "We want to transform the way we operate, and to do so we are building the foundations that will allow us to adopt technologies such as artificial intelligence, telemedicine and digital therapies on a large scale," explains Jesús Ponce, President and CEO of Novartis in Spain.

The alliance with Barcelona Tech City provides us with a unique space for management, creation and collaborative work to maintain our commitment to innovation, medicine and technology. "We’re re-imagining medicine, and we’re doing it by innovating in science and incorporating digital health services that benefit patients and help the sustainability of the national health system," says Ponce.

Providing innovative solutions, together.

Barcelona is emerging as a hub of technology, attracting undisputed talent. And Barcelona Tech City, which brings together more than 800 companies from the digital and technological sectors, provides an environment for interaction and the development of projects that benefit the city.

Miquel Martí, CEO of Barcelona Tech City, offers a very positive assessment of the agreement: “The life sciences sector is one of the sectors with the greatest potential in Barcelona. Having Novartis as a Global Partner of Barcelona Tech City highlights the innovation commitment that the pharmaceutical company is making with regard to the ecosystem surrounding neurology and neurological patient care. We hope that this alliance will create new partnerships that will contribute to the promotion of new services or business models”

This collaboration therefore reaffirms our willingness to work with other companies in different sectors to exploit the potential that the digital environment offers for the benefit of people. It is undoubtedly essential to invest in neurological diseases in order to improve people's quality of life. In the words of Orlando Vergara, director of the company's Neuroscience Department, “in the future, taking care of our brains will ensure that we can live longer while maintaining the quality of life”.
